Surprisingly the saxophone was originally developed as a classical music instrument before it got its jazzy reputation. It was invented by a French horn maker, Adolphe Sax, who liked to experiment a lot with the design of brass instruments. The saxophone was one of his more successful inventions (in my opinion) and has developed into a brilliant instrument full of expression and character. I studied classical saxophone as a second instrument in my Bachelor of Music degree studies in South Africa and later studied jazz saxophone at the Zurich University of the Arts. I am comfortable teaching beginner to intermediate level, and enjoy teaching learners of all ages.
Don’t play the saxophone. Let it play you.
